Aimée Donnell has only ever wanted one thing: to be a writer. Originally from Northern Ireland from the same town that birthed Seamus Heaney, storytelling has always been in her blood. Now a York-based poet, her writing is deeply personal yet universally resonant and chronicles how we navigate the complexities of mental health, relationships and chronic illness with a lyrical, reflective and hopeful tone. Her debut book of poetry entitled ‘We Are All Creatures of Struggle’ is currently up for presale on Waterstones and Amazon and available to buy in local bookstores and as an e-book from 13th March 2025. The book spawned into existence from a series of mental-health spirals, relationship struggles, chronic health flare-ups and self-confidence issues. It is a 3-part journey where it aims to speak up for those voices who are silently suffering or going through something where they feel they can't quite climb back out of. The poems span across the last five years of the writer’s life with the aim to unite at a time when mental-health or personal struggles can feel incredibly isolating. Join Aimée for the launch night of her debut book of poetry for guest performances, live readings, book signings and the opportunity to come together and celebrate what makes us human. Half of all profits made from ticket sales for the event, will be donated to Crohn’s & Colitis UK, a charity close to Aimée’s heart. As a sufferer from the chronic illness herself, through her poetry, Aimée hopes to continue raising awareness about the conditions and rally further support as a passionate advocate. New to performing, Aimée has been sharing her poetry at open-mics and competing in poetry competitions around the North of England, in cities like York, Leeds and Manchester whenever the opportunity arises to continue sharing her passion for words and celebrate the ability to connect with people through her relatable topics. We Are All Creatures of Struggle is a compelling collection of poetry that delves into the myriad facets of human experience. This evocative anthology captures the essence of our inner battles, exploring themes of resilience, vulnerability and self-discovery. Each poem offers a unique perspective on the complexities of life, from the quiet moments of introspection to the intense confrontations with our deepest fears. With a lyrical and reflective tone, this collection invites readers to journey through the shared struggles that define us, ultimately finding solace and strength in the written word. Perfect for those seeking connection and understanding, We Are All Creatures of Struggle is a testament to the beauty and resilience of the human spirit.
